Seismic
In areas regulated by the Uniform Building Code (UBC), zones 0-1 are classified as non-seismic and zones 2-4 are seismic.

In areas regulated by the International Building Code (IBC), there are 3 parameters related to building design that affect the determination if an elevator requires a seismic design: Seismic Design Category, Design Spectral Response at a short period – SDS, and elevator component Importance Factor – IP.

Emergency Battery Power Supply
When the main line power is lost for longer than 5 seconds the emergency battery power supply provides power automatically to the elevator controller. The elevator will rise or lower to the first available landing, open the doors, and shut down. The elevator will return to service upon the return of normal main line power.
